Tata International mourns the passing of Dr JJ Irani

Padma Bhushan awardee Dr Jamshed Jiji Irani passed away on October 31, 2022 in Jamshedpur (Jharkhand, India). A true visionary, Dr Irani will be remembered for his remarkable leadership during the nation’s economic liberalisation in the early 1990s, and for contributing to the growth and development of the steel industry in India.
Besides serving as Managing Director of Tata Steel and further on the board of Tata Steel, Dr Irani served as a non-executive director of Tata International from 2001. Dr Irani held several other positions such as Director of several Tata group companies, including Tata Motors and Tata Teleservices. His contribution to the structuring of the corporate governance regime in India is noteworthy.
An ardent promoter of sports, an able administrator, and a man known for his helpful spirit, ever ready with solutions for improving and bettering the lives of the citizens of his city and his nation, Dr Irani’s presence and guidance will be deeply missed by all at Tata International.
