May 12, 2016

It was a proud moment for Tata International (TIL), when Deepak Prakash showcased his footwear collection at the Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DICCI) Industrial Expo. An entrepreneur who has been developed at Footwear Dewas under Utkarsh, the company’s Affirmative Action (AA) programme, Deepak was accompanied by TIL representative, Ranjeet Singh. TIL showcased its AA activities at the Tata group stall at the event that was held on March 25-27, 2016, at NEC Goregaon, Mumbai.

Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, who inaugurated the event made a special mention of the Tata group’s stellar contribution to affirmative action, particularly in developing 300 SC/ST entrepreneurs. Dr NS Rajan, former GEC member, welcomed the Chief Minister to the group stall.

Deepak hails from Agra, Uttar Pradesh. While working at TIL’s Dewas unit, TIL recognised his ambition to be an entrepreneur and decided to support him in setting up his own business. As part of its AA activity, TIL supported Deepak right from the establishment of his business till it became self-sustainable and educated him on labour-related compliances. Today, M/s Deepak Prakash has a dedicated line for TIL in its Dewas premises for manufacturing shoes for a US customer. TIL continues to extend its support to Deepak by giving him a consistent volume of business. He employs 150 workers on monthly basis, out of which more than 25 per cent belong to the SC/ST community.
