Tata International (TIL) has formed a beans and pulses association at Yangon, called the Overseas Agro Traders Association of Myanmar (OATAM), on recommendation of the Ministry of Commerce of Myanmar. TIL Myanmar has played a lead role. The association will serve as a credible platform to interact with the Ministries and Chamber of Commerce and the Beans and the Pulses Association of Myanmar to take up common issues and get them resolved for the betterment of this trade.

Mr Sunil Seth, TIL’s Country Head for Myanmar, was nominated the first president of the association and the first meeting of the association was held at the Yangon International Hotel on February 12, 2014. It was attended by representatives of 16 companies that account for more than 85 per cent of the trade of beans and pulses from Myanmar to India. Important issues such as security of payments, quality, logistics and role of inspection agencies like SGS, etc, were discussed. The association plans to meet every month and meet the Ministry of Commerce once a quarter.

In January 2014,TIL Myanmar shipped 7,198mt of beans and pulses, and imports of feed meals from India to Myanmar. This is one of the highest monthly figures since the start of operations, second only to the turnover of November 2013.
