Tata Africa Senegal launches Tata Ace

During MD Mr NN Tata’s visit to Dakar, Senegal, Tata Ace Magic project was launched by HE Mr Thierno Alassane Sall, Minister of Transport, Republic of Senegal. The function was held on April 28, 2014 at Hotel des Almadies.

Senior Senegalese functionaries such as Mr Alioune Thiam, President of CETUD, Transport Regulatory Organization, and Mr Abdoulaye Gueye, President of AFTU, Transport Unions, were present at the occasion. A host of other eminent personalities present included, HE Mr Partha Satpathy, Indian Ambassador in Dakar, Senegal, Mr RT Wasan, Head International Business (Commercial Vehicles), Tata Motors, Mr Xavier Gobille, Executive Director, Auto and Allied Distribution, Tata Africa Holdings.

The keys of Tata Ace Magic vehicles were handed over to customers during the event. Old privately operated taxis are being replaced with Tata Ace Magic as a pilot project by the Dakar localities of Pikine and Rufisque where the 8-seaters will be operating on two routes.

Speaking at the event, Mr Sall stated, “This project will achieve the ambitions of Senegal’s President for all Senegalese people without exception, by improving their mobility needs.” These vehicles will increase connectivity in the suburbs and this marks the beginning of accessibility to social and economic support infrastructure for majority of the population of the Dakar metropolitan area.

The Minister welcomed the commitment of stakeholders as it is essential for the success of the project and emphasized the importance of an efficient after-sales system. He announced a programme for modernization of urban transport for the main cities of Senegal. Further, he expressed the view that the modernisation of the transport system in the suburbs of Dakar is part of an excellent socio-economic partnership between Senegal and the Tata group.
