MD visits TIL Myanmar operations

October 28, 2015

Tata International MD, Mr NN Tata, visited the company’s Myanmar office. He interacted with the team along with Country Head of TIL and Tata Sons Myanmar, Mr Sunil Seth. Mr KV Rao, Regional Director, Tata Sons, was also present.

The Myanmar office started operations in January 2013 and the team is now 20 strong, comprising expatriates and locals. The team focuses largely on agro commodities, followed by the steel, and infrastructure and construction equipment businesses. The Myanmar office is expected to achieve a turnover of USD 120 million this year.

This is Mr Tata’s first visit to the Myanmar office. While congratulating the team for their performance in a short period of two business years, he advised that they should look at growing more in the agro business to make it a USD 500-million business in three to four years. This could be achieved by looking at value addition possibilities in the agro supply chain and also adding new products to the existing portfolio, he suggested.

The MD also opined that the power sector has great potential in Myanmar and the Tata group should look at multi-fuel options for power generation and not just coal. Mr Tata visited both JLR and Tata Motors facilities in Yangon.

A dinner was hosted in the evening for around 50 business partners to meet Mr Tata. Important stakeholders of TIL Myanmar, like pulses suppliers, bankers, steel customers, machinery importers and Indian Ambassador to Myanmar, Mr Gautam Mukhopadhaya, attended the dinner function and interacted with Mr Tata.
