Cambodia team participates in workshop for sustainable agriculture

July 18, 2016

Tata International’s (TIL) Cambodia unit participated in a workshop on ‘Cambodia Partnership for Sustainable Agriculture’ in May 2016. The event was held at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Cambodia, and was chaired by the Secretary of State TY Sokhun. Further, this was coordinated by Grow Asia, which is a partnership platform catalysed by the World Economic Forum in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat.

The workshop served as an opportunity for discussion and to initiate steps to improve production of major cash crops in Cambodia. It was important to translate the opportunities identified into on-the-ground actions.

Tata South-East Asia (Cambodia), a subsidiary of TIL, is a founder member of the Working Groups of Cassava and Rice. Apart from these being the cash crops, farmers for these crops largely use the Farmtrac brand of tractors distributed by TIL in Cambodia. The first meeting was in May 2016, and the second Working Group meeting was held on June 15, 2016. The Cambodia team looks forward to putting forth proposals highlighting the challenges, existing projects and opportunities for private sector organisations, which would help increase yields and on a larger perspective bringing about economic stability to the Cambodian farmers, also aiming at food sufficiency in the country.
