Environmental Protection and Sustainability

We at Tata International take pride in being a responsible member of the environment in which we operate and have adopted global environmental norms in our businesses. Our constant endeavour has been to promote sustainable manufacturing processes, and our in-house teams are engaged in research and development towards ensuring reduced environmental impact. Besides a Corporate Sustainability Report as per the Global Reporting Initiative Guidelines of the UN, we also file an annual ‘Communication of Progress’.

Our commitment is reinforced in the following major ways:

  • Pioneering environment protection, ecological conservation measures in and around our facilities.
  • Constant research and updating our application of sustainable manufacturing processes for reduced environmental impact.
  • Heavy reforestation and creation of new water resources in the form of ponds and wells for the surrounding communities.
  • One of India’s largest solar thermal water heating systems in our Dewas leather factory.
  • Colleagues came together to volunteer their time cleaning up the campus of Kaunda Square Primary School
  • Campus selects and employees based out of the Tata International Head office in Mumbai participated actively in volunteering activities
  • The Leather Products team conducted a tree plantation drive on World Environment Day with the presence of special guests from Tirupattur District TNPCB.
  • The team of Côte d’Ivoire organized a tree plantation drive with over 200 local species of trees, supported by the Ambassador of India, Dr Rajesh Ranjan.
  • The Tanzania team celebrated Global Waste Pickers Day and distributed safety gears, showed support to waste pickers in Dar-es-Salam city.

  • The Finished Leather team in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh (India) has significantly cut down on its use of plastic, by reusing the plastic roll utilised to protect the leather from burning in the high temperature roller machine during production fo covering the leather and protecting it from dust and moisture.
  • TIL Americas team planted trees at the Starved Rock State Park at the Illinois River, south of Chicago, as a step towards building a sustainable environmentin partnership with the NGO ‘One Tree Planted’.
  • The Dewas team participated in a tree plantation activity at the Association of Industries Dewas, Madhya Pradesh (India), during which TIL staff helped plant 65 seedlings.
  • In celebration of World Environment Day, team Dewas pledged to be more environmentally responsible. They planted trees, distributed jute bags and encouraged all to reduce pollution.
  • TIL’s Solar team joined hands with the customer team at a project site in Nanded, Maharashtra to mark World Environment Day. The teams planted 32 trees at the site.
  • The Dewas team celebrated India’s Independence Day by planting saplings on the factory premises following the flag hoisting ceremony.
  • On the occasion of India’s 68th Republic Day, Tata International’s Dewas unit organised a clean-up drive on the banks of Kshipra river in Madhya Pradesh, India, under the government’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
  • Stryder, TIL’s bicycle business, supported the ‘No Motor Cycle – Only Bicycle’ event at a Government junior college in Telangana, India in December 2016. The anti-pollution drive witnessed more than 600 students and policemen participate.
  • As part of its community-building initiatives, TIL’s CSR team at Dewas (Madhya Pradesh, India) organised an awareness session on malnutrition and a tree plantation drive at a government-run crèche on November 11, 2016.
  • The Dewas (Madhya Pradesh, India) unit conducted a tree plantation drive on October 14, 2016 as part of the ‘Green India Campaign’.
  • Company employees accompanied by students and faculty of the Government Industrial Training Institute at Tonk Khurd, Dewas participate in a tree plantation drive on September 6, 2016.
  • Tata International’s (TIL) CSR team at Dewas (Madhya Pradesh, India) organised a tree plantation drive at the Maa Chamunda Temple
  • TIL volunteers planted Neem, Kaner and Jamun saplings under the Green Dewas Clean Dewas Campaign
  • Around 100 employees from the TIL Dewas team came together to clean up the banks of the river Kshipra as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan on Republic Day (January 26, 2016).
  • The Dewas CSR team organise a tree plantation drive at the government Industrial Training Institute, Tonk Khurd (Madhya Pradesh, India).
  • The South Africa team organised a tree plantation drive to mark World Environment Day on June 5, 2015.
  • The TIL Africa team helped plant marula trees at the Tirisano Mmogo Primary School in Randburg, Johannesburg, for World Environment Day 2015.
  • Staff at the corporate office in Mumbai participated in a sapling planting drive at a local school as part of Sustainability Month 2015.
  • Students of a municipal school in Mumbai participate in a sapling plantation drive organised by TIL on June 11, 2015 to commemorate World Environment Day.
  • Staff celebrated World Environment Day 2015 by planting saplings at TIL’s Dewas facility in Madhya Pradesh (India).
  • A Pollution Under Control (PUC) camp was organised in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh as part of the Sustainability Month initiatives in June 2015.
  • An interactive session to create awareness on sustainability was organised at Dewas, Madhya Pradesh in June 2015.
  • The Chennai team promoted low-carbon transport, encouraging employees to take up cycling by offering discounts on Tata Styder cycles in June 2015.
  • The Chennai team held an art competition for the Somangalam Higher Secondary School ‘Going Green: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle’ on June 24, 2015.
  • Tata International’s Dewas team (Madhya Pradesh, India) participated in a clean-up drive on the banks of the river Shipra.
  • The Dewas team cleaned up the banks of the river Kshipra as part of TIL’s support of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan campaign promoted by the Prime Minister of India.
  • About 40 employees volunteered to clear discarded plastic and polythene bags along the Kshipra river as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan campaign promoted by the Prime Minister of India.
  • TIL celebrated Sustainability Week from June 2 to 7, 2014, with several locations undertaking activities like energy-saving initiatives and environmental awareness drives at schools.
  • A free PUC check camp was organised in association with the Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board Dewas for the vehicles at TIL Dewas factory (India). Nearly 200 company and employees vehicles were checked.
