Tata International Singapore participates in roundtable at Coal Markets Conference

Mr Sabyasachi Mishra, Head of Minerals (Singapore), represented Tata International (TIL) at the Indian Buyers’ Roundtable held in Singapore under the aegis of the Coal Markets Conference on February 4, 2015. Other notable participants included Mr Avinash Shah, GMR Group; Mr Kapil Thapar, Adani Power; and Mr Amulya Charan, Monnet Ispat & Energy.

The session was interactive with several questions from the international audience in attendance, around the themes of market expectations; current coal demand and expected import demand for medium to long term; demand for low rank coal compared to high rank; regulatory updates in India affecting coal imports and power project updates and timeline.

The panellists were of the view that coal imports into India will reach a volume of 250 million MT by 2020. They were hopeful of positive developments in the regulatory framework towards removing infrastructural bottlenecks. TIL presented the increasing Indian demand for sub-bit Indonesian coal, which currently accounts for 70 per cent of the overall thermal coal imports in India.
