TIL Myanmar Head meets World Bank President

World Bank President Dr Jim Young Kim visited Nay Pyi Taw on a first visit ever to Myanmar. Mr Sunil Seth, Tata International Country Head, was invited to participate in a round table discussion between Dr Kim and heads of select corporates. Besides the World Bank President and representatives from International Finance Corporation, Asian Development Bank and Japan International Cooperation Agency, Vice President U Nyan Tun, senior minister in president’s office U Soe Thane, and many senior ministers from the Myanmar government attended.

Mr Seth briefed Dr Kim about the company’s activities in Myanmar and also about other Tata group companies’ presence like Tata Motors and Tata Power. Some key issues faced were highlighted especially in the context of the power and automobile sectors. Power developers from Thailand, Malaysia and Korea also participated in the event, as did the CEOs of Telenor and Ooredoo, who have just been awarded the telecom license for Myanmar. A few of the top local companies also participated in the discussions

Dr Kim reiterated the World Bank’s commitment to the development of Myanmar with a focus on health and education besides infrastructure development.
