TIL Dewas teaches waste prevention at adopted primary school

December 18, 2015

The Dewas team of Tata International (TIL) undertook a visit to Anwatpura Primary School on December 16, 2015. The rural school has been adopted under Utkarsh – the company’s Affirmative Action programme. TIL has supported an upgradation of the school’s infrastructure by constructing two toilets – one each for boys and girls – and also levelled the school periphery with gravel. A Tata Swach water filter has also been donated, all as part of the programme.

The school has 157 boys and girls with 70 per cent of the students from SC/ST communities. The school staff, including the headmaster and teachers, have shown great enthusiasm in embracing the progressive actions. Sameer Tungare and Poorwa Dixit from the Leather Products business at TIL Dewas (Madhya Pradesh, India), are closely involved with this initiative. They were also part of the special information sharing sessions organised at the school, at which the students were advised on the prevention of waste. Virendra Gupte who supports and advises on the AA programme was present to interact with the students of Classes 6, 7 and 8.

The school has devised an innovative student engagement initiative, by appointing a ‘Mock Cabinet’ of students. The TIL team encouraged and showed its support to the various initiatives of the school by presenting the students with special badges that they sported proudly.
