South Africa teams volunteer at Benoni centre

September 29, 2017

Employees from Tata International subsidiaries, Tata Africa Holdings (TAHL), Tata Automobile Corporation (SA) and Tata Africa Steel Processors, came together to spend time at Oliver’s Village in Putfontein, Benoni.

Following a site inspection held earlier in the month, the volunteers on September 22, 2017, painted 20 kiosks erected to serve as a flea market. These kiosks are contained in a fenced off area within the bigger campus of Oliver’s Village. The volunteers also tackled the palisade fencing around the area, which had rusted in places.

Some of the volunteers also spent time with the children from the Early Childhood Development Centre at Oliver’s Village. Kitted out in their traditional gear in celebration of Heritage Day, a public holiday in South Africa, the children were only too happy to meet with the visitors. The Centre cares for 120 disadvantaged children from the ages 1 to 5 years. Many children come from families affected by the AIDS/HIV epidemic.

TAHL’s relationship with Oliver’s Village began early in 2017. Oliver’s Village currently manages four social projects which include the Early Childhood Development Centre, Educational Learning Centre, Computer Training Centre, the Agri-business, Home Bakery and other enterprise projects.
