Minerals Trading business crosses milestone of 10 million MT of thermal coal

August 19, 2015

Tata International’s Mineral Trading business has crossed a major milestone – 10 million MT of thermal coal traded – since its inception.

This latest milestone follows the vertical’s positive run as it marked one million metric tonnes of traded coal for three successive quarters in FY 2014-15.

The Minerals Trading business is engaged in international physical trading for raw material commodities, currently focused on bulk trade of thermal coal to India and China, sourced mainly from Indonesia, South Africa and Australia. In addition, the business is also engaged in trading of ores, base metals and ferro-alloys.

The business continues to register healthy growth in volumes based on the inroads made with customers in India and strengthened sourcing arrangements. Key clients for this business are in the power, cement, steel and sponge iron sectors.
