Madhya Pradesh Industry Minister visits Dewas facility

Commerce and Industry Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Ms Yashodhara Raje Scindia, visited Tata International’s (TIL) leather products facility in Dewas in March 2015. She took a tour of the footwear plant and spent some time on the shop floor with the workers at their work stations. She interacted with the representatives of the Workers’ Committee, women workers who represented TIL Dewas at the state and regional level Kaizen and Quality Circle Competitions, and location Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) committee members. Among these were women workers who had visited China for a three-month skill-based training programme.

The Minister was impressed seeing the factory operated by 750 women workers. She remarked that Tata International had taken a leap forward in promoting this cause of making women for self-dependent. She also stressed on the importance of skill-based training to increase industrial production and creation of livelihood. She found the TIL governance mechanism very effective wherein Workers’ Committee Representatives shares the voice of shop floor with the Management, partners in resolving issues and focuses more on operational efficiency. During a presentation by some of the members of the POSH committee, Ms Scindia responded, ‘…all women workers are in such a protective environment. Their faces are so bright and cheerful, which shows that they all are happy at TIL and they take this happiness to their families and homes.’

She interacted with Mr N Mohan, Global Head – Leather products, Mr Rakesh Agarwal, Head – Fashion Leather, Dr CS Katju, Mr Sandeep Singh and others during the visit.
