Leather Working Group meeting convenes at Lineapelle, Milan

October 03, 2016

The Leather Working Group (LWG) is an online resource for stakeholders in the leather industry including brands, manufacturers, NGOs and end users. The objective of this multi-stakeholder group is to develop and maintain a protocol that assesses the environmental compliance and performance capabilities of leather manufacturers. It also promotes sustainable and appropriate environmental business practices within the industry.

Tata International (TIL) participated in Lineapelle, a leading leather industry trade exhibition held in Milan (Italy) each year. As part of the event, an LWG meeting was held on September 23, 2016. TIL was represented at the meet by Mr Sandeep Singh, Head – Technical, Finished Leather.

The day was full of discussions which began with an update on Governance and Structure, and the spread of the LWG both geographically and process area wise.

The meet included panel sessions on ‘Supplier sub-group’, ‘Trader working group’ and ‘Technical working group’. There were also presentations from guest speakers on various other aspects of the leather industry such as chemical management, brand engagement, animal welfare and cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) mapping.

The impact of the meet will be reviewed in the next meet at Chennai (Tamil Nadu, India) scheduled in February 2017.
