Mr Noel N Tata is currently the Managing Director of Tata International and Chairman of Trent.
Before joining Tata International, he worked with Trent, Nestle (UK), and Tata Exports (now Tata International). In 1998, Trent took over the business of UK-based company Littlewoods India and renamed the store Westside. He has since overseen the growth of Trent across formats – from a one store operation in 1998 to over 105 stores across formats in 2014 – namely Westside (currently 83 department stores), Landmark (currently 6 leisure and family entertainment stores), Star Bazaar (currently 16 food and grocery hypermarkets in association with Tesco), besides the joint venture with Inditex to bring Zara to India (currently 15 stores). During this period, the consolidated turnover of Trent has increased from USD 2 million to approximately USD 400 million.
Having led Trent as Managing Director for more than 11 years, Mr Tata was appointed Vice Chairman in 2012 and Chairman in 2014. He also took over as Managing Director of Tata International in August 2010. Established in 1962, Tata International is the premier trading arm of the Tata group, with presence in five key verticals: Metals Trading, Distribution, Leather and Leather products, Minerals Trading, and Agri Trading. The company registered revenues in the region of USD 2 billion+ in FY 2014-15 and employs more than 10,000+ personnel spanning 39 countries in Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and Asia.
Mr Tata was appointed Chairman of Tata Investment Corporation in June 2010 and appointed Chairman of Tata Africa Holdings in September 2014. Besides, Mr Tata is also a Director of various Tata companies including Voltas and Titan Industries; and the Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He is also Chairman of Voltas’ Investors Grievance Committee, and Member of Tata Investment Corporation’s Investment Committee and Remuneration Committee.
Mr Tata graduated from Sussex University (UK) and has completed the International Executive Programme (IEP) from INSEAD. He is the son of Mr Naval H Tata and Mrs Simone N Tata.
